MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard)
MDF is the result of a complicated process where the wood is broken down into its fibre and then pressed into a smooth board. MDF is also referred to as Craftwood or Customwood. As MDF does not have a timber grain on its surface a paper veneer, DAP, bearing a timber grain design or a solid timber veneer is glued to the board.
Plywood
Manufactured from veneers of solid timber adhered together, plywood is a high strength and durable sheet of board. The grade of plywood our company uses to construct the bottom of solid timber caskets is of a water resistant nature.
DAP (Diallyl Phthalate) Board
DAP is the term used to describe paper with a simulated timber grain that is glued onto MDF or particleboard. DAP is purchased in a variety of colours.
Timber Veneer Board
A veneer, or thin layer, of solid timber is glued onto MDF or particleboard. Solid timber veneer is more valuable and more authentic than paper veneer.
Solid Timber
Solid timber used to craft our coffins and caskets is high-grade Cedar, Camphor Laurel and plantation Radiata pine.
Oversize Coffins
Our oversize coffins are produced with thicker bottoms, deeper sides, deeper ends and wider lids than standard sized coffins, approximately 35% more material is used to produce oversize coffins. Levels of board waste is higher when producing oversize coffins because of size limitations of raw material. Workplace Health and Safety regulations generally require an additional person to lift and move each oversize coffin throughout all stages of assembly, polishing, warehousing and loading delivery vehicles. In most cases, only one or two oversize coffins of any model is produced at a given time.
